Remembering the life of George Khoury (2024)

Salem - GEORGE J. "BUD" KHOURY, JR., SALEM, NEW HAMPSHIRE
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the unparalleled George J. "Bud" Khoury, Jr. longtime resident of Salem, NH, who passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2024 and has gone to join his beloved youngest son, Gary, parents, George and Dominica, and sister, Marilyn, who predeceased him. He was born in Lawrence, MA on July 21, 1936.
"Bud," as he was affectionately known, graduated at age 15, as the then youngest graduate with Honors from Lawrence High School in 1952 and received his undergraduate degree in English/Journalism with honors from Northeastern University and a Master's Degree in English Literature, and member of Sigma Epsilo Rho Honor Society;. And had additional post graduate training in in the Harbridge House Advanced Management Training in Boston, Massachusetts.
He proudly served in the Coast Guard and was a Korean Veteran; he was at the time, the youngest petty officer (18 years old) in service. He was a crewmember of the Andrea Doria Rescue Vessel, USCGC Tamoaroa (WATF-166). He was a member of the American Legion Pershing Post No. 1, Paris, France and Member, USCG Sea Veterans. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Bud was well known, loved and respected in New Hampshire and the Merrimack Valley, very active in the community and the definition of true public service. His roles are too numerous to list but included: Selectman/Three Term Chairman of the Board of Selectman for the Town of Salem; Chairman of the NH Adult Parole Board Member State of New Hampshire Juvenile Dispositional Board; Commissioner, NH Commission on Crime and Delinquency; Special Deputy Sheriff for Public Affairs, Rockingham County; Chair, Salem Highway Safety Commission; Special Liaison to the White House Chief of Staff, John H Sununu; Congressional Staff Liaison, Congressman James C. Cleveland; Director NH Industrial Development Authority; Chair Salem Charter Commission; Commissioner Salem Housing; Trustee for the University System of New Hampshire; Vice Chair Trustees, Castle College; Board of Governors, NH Public Television; Advisory Board, NH Vocational/Technical School, Nashua NH; Advisory Board, Emerson College, Proposed Lawrence Campus; English Instructor, UMass Lowell; Community Relations Instructor, Law Enforcement Education Programs (LEEP), MA University System; Instructor in "Communications with the General Population" (for corrections officers) at MA Correctional Institutions at Billerica and Concord; Seminar Director, Northern Essex Community College; Sales/Marketing, Publicity and Public Relations, Exhibit Manager; Instructor Political Science, Northern Essex Community College; Public Relations Advisor NH Association Chiefs of Police.
A Justice of the Peace and Notary Public, Bud also served two terms as the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce and two terms as the Past President of Salem Kiwanis club; Member of the Hundred Club of New Hampshire; cofounder of the American Lebanese Awareness Association (ALAA); Co Founder, Chrisopher Columbus Association and Member of Sons of Italy, Lodge #902.; Director NH Industrial Development Authority; and co-founder of the well known annual Salem staple of the Ganley luncheon.
He received countless well-deserved honors and awards, also too many to list, but notably include: Representative to President Gerald Ford at the 15th Anniversary Independence Ceremonies, Mauritania, West Africa; Businessperson of the Year, Salem Chamber of Commerce; Irving E. Rogers Humanitarian of the Year; Citizen of the Year, Chief John P. Ganley Salem Community Service Award.
His business career included positions as Director, Customer relations (Corporate)/Vice President Business Development for Raytheon International. During his tenure there, he was responsible for New England based Congressional relations. He served as Executive Director/Assistant Treasurer of Raytheon's corporate-wide international Political Action Committee. Upon his early retirement, formed George J. Khoury, corp, a fulltime management government relations consulting firm.
He was thoroughly invested and enjoyed immensely his second home of Nantucket Island for over 40 years, and his many friends at the Angler's club there. His love and talent for cooking was well known and his "hors doerves" night at the Angler's Club was always a hit. He was a strong supporter of the autism community on and off island.
He was a devoted Husband to his wife, Patricia, and served as the "Gold Standard" as loving and inspirational father and grandfather to his sons, Patrick and his Wife Heather from Cary, IL, Scott Anthony and his wife, Gisele, of Hampton, NH; daughter, Pamela Jayne, and his much loved grandchildren, Shannon, Scott, Garrett, Max, Andrew, Daniel, Rachel, Jaclyn and Nicholas and great granddaughter Evelyn, brother to Brian of Montana, and uncle to many including his niece Marguerite and her husband Dr. Anthony Sciuto of Methuen.
His humility and willingness to mentor and or provide counsel to countless others was another legacy.

Services are private. A public memorial service will be held at a later time.
